The Penrose Staircase

The simplicity of Christopher Nolan's idea in Inception hit me in that spot. Curiosity hit me like a gush of wind. I had studied about dreams before but the idea the Nolan had was different from the mainstream ones. "What if one could penetrate/control another's dream and had the power to control it?"

Hence it led me to the amazing discovery of the Penrose Staircase. A depiction of a 90-degree staircase that turns as they ascend and descend that forms a continuous loop that goes on forever. A person may climb it forever and it will never get higher.

This design is clearly impossible in the 3-Dimension world. Hence, this can only be experienced in a lucid dream.

The Accident

How could I accept the fact she was gone? I couldn't bare myself to think of the mistake I had made to let this all happen. Tears ran down my cheeks.

48 hours before

I took Madelene my golden retriever out for a walk. She loved her walks. She would always jump around every time I bring the leash out. It was the indication that she was going for a walk and with her playful grin on her face. Eight years she has been with us and she was like part of the family.

Angie, my 5 year old sister wanted to tag along so she could play in the park while Maddy would run around
with other dogs. I would sit there perhaps call my girlfriend Rosie to keep me company as I watch them.

There were a few kids playing soccer at the field. I knew some of the guys. They were school mates. Siva was in my class. I was talking to Rosie and didn't realize that Maddy had gone quite far away.

Moments passed and it was getting dark so I decided to head back.I called out for Angie but there was no reply. I searched for her everywhere but I couldn't find her. I ran around looking for her and Rosie helped me.

I heard a barking noise and turned around and saw Maddy barking at a car where two guys were heading into the car in a rush. I ran over and saw that Angie was in the car. I panicked. I ran as fast as I could towards the car and smashed the window. A bulky man came out and punched me in the stomach. I retaliated with a punch on his face. I managed to get Angie of the car and ask her to go to Rosie.

The driver came out of the car with a gun and shot me straight in the arm. I fell to the ground. The gun shot was heard loudly and Siva and his friends came over to help out. Maddy jumped at the driver and bit his hand before he could shoot me again. Angie ran out of Rosie's reach straight to Maddy to rescue her. I managed to get up and started running towards them to get Maddy and Angie to safety.

The driver saw me and shot me at the stomach with my other hand and Rosie came to me. I pushed her aside and ran towards them. Maddy had disarmed the driverwhen I got to him and punched him multiple times. Siva came running and took Maddy and Angie to safety. But before anything could happen, the driver took out a knife and stabbed me on the back. With blood oozing out I fell to the ground.

At that time a speeding car was coming towards me but before he had time to break Rosie pushed me aside and got hit by the car.I screamed my lungs out. I couldn't move to help her. Jay,Tom and Max ran towards me to help. Siva ran towards Rosie to see her and Angie and Maddy were safely on the field. I passed out.

I could remember the wailing of the ambulance and people saying that I was losing blood. Voices saying Maddy was dead. I couldn't put it together.

As tears ran down my cheek I closed my eyes leaned back and breathed my last breath.

A second Chance

Do you believe in second chances? I do, and everyday I hope I get that second chance with her.

Katy Perry's song, The One that got Away explains the exact feeling I get every time I am around her and every time I think about her. That moment we shared, when there was no one around, just the two of us. How I treasure that moment everyday. I wouldn't want to regret not having that chance.

Her wavy hair, her beautiful eyes, her charming smile and an intellectual person. She may be small but good things come in small packages. Everything I would look for in a girl. She is one person I have always wanted to spend time with, day and night, rain or shine.

Her craziness matches mine. She made me feel alive. No one has made me feel that way before. No one.

Yet to tell her how I feel after all this years might just go to waste, but all I hope is I do get a chance to re-live that moment or maybe get a chance to let me make her happy for a change. She deserves to be happy. I want to make her happy.

The Full Moon

"AHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA" that evil laugh. One that I will never forget in my life. "Come out for where you're hiding!" I screamed.

"Come and catch me little bird!" the echo of his voice said.

Oh how I wanted to catch him by the neck and choke him. I hated his smile, the grin he always gave. He even smiled when he killed people. A cold blooded man, a psycho that was out to disrupt the lives of the people in Gotham.

I remember him from when I was a child. I was with my parents walking home after a play at the theater. We were walking through an alley when two men jumped out at us pointing guns. "Gives us your money," the man in the purple suit said. My father being the brave man he is refused it and in cold blood they shot him and my mother as I watched from the corner.

The man in the purple suit came up to me in that evil grin and pointed tot he full moon. He told me "Hey son. have you ever seen the devil dance under the pale moonlight?" and walked away laughing.

Till today, every time I confront him he tells me the same thing. And today was my day to get back.

Come out Joker! No more playing games with me. Come out!

I ran through the entire abandoned hospital. The eeriness was not getting to me yet the silence was chilling.

And then, "I'm here birdy, come get me." With all the rage I had i ran towards the source. A whole night of chasing this lunatic after he robbed the bank. The money? His accomplice the Riddler had it. Oh how I would like to get rid of both of them.

Running towards the source, I push my way through the sheets from the wall and look out to a portion of the building that had been destroyed. You could see the whole city from up here. And then that laugh again. I turned around and found a radio playing the laugh.

He played me. I looked up to the sky and saw a full moon was out that night.

Don't Jump

Don't Jump by Roshan Menon

"Yea! It is always my fault isn't it? He is always the angel!"I yelled and slammed the door at the same time. I kicked my bed and sat on my chair and looked at my book. I read through the poems that I had written. It wasn't that bad but I loved to write ghost stories even more. I was a horror junkie. Loved it, lived it. I jumped on my bed and took my laptop and started streaming through some blogs about weird sightings and ghost hunters. These things amused me.

It was about one in the morning and I woke up and saw my laptop. I had slept off for about two hours. I looked outside my balcony. I had forgotten to close the window. The curtains were being blown in by the wind. I walked towards the window to close it.

I saw Sarah, my neighbour, sitting at her balcony. Her head was lying on her hands and she wore a long white gown. "Cool dress Sarah,"I told her. No response. Weird, it wasn't like Sarah. I didn't care and wanted to get back to bed. Before I could turn around, Sarah suddenly stood up straight. I thought she was going to answer me.

Yet the unthinkable happened. Sarah jumped form the balcony onto the ground face first. No words could describe my reaction. I was shocked, stunned. I screamed,"Sarah! Are you ok?" No response. I could see the blood oozing out from her body and formed a huge puddle of blood. The sight was revolting. I took out my handphone and decided to call the ambulance.

As I dialled the number, a chill ran down my spine. I turned around to see Sarah's body on the ground but instead I saw her body floating back up to her balcony to the upright postion she was before she jumped. She was drenched in blood and I could see that she had broken her neck.Blood was dripping from her hair. My face turned pale, when she jumped from the balcony again.

Even more blood was oozing out of her body and she looked dead. My head started to get light as I tried to call the police. I became nausea. I leaned against the balcony carefully to see the body but it wasn't there. I looked around. It wasn't anywhere. I decided to run back into my room and hide under the covers. But when I turned around. her body was standing right in front of me all dripping with blood all over my balcony. I screamed my heart out but the body suddenly leaned against me and I fell of the edge of balcony to my death. Both our bodies lay there in a pool of blood, partially disfigured.

I woke up from my sleep. It was all a dream. My laptop was still on.I checked myself. I was still ok. No blood on me. I was thankful for that. I got up and saw my window open and the curtain was blowing in. I went to close it when I saw Sarah on her balcony in a long white gown. I reluctantly said,"Good night Sarah." And she replied in her normal sweet voice. The wind was blowing in my face as Sarah headed in her room. I felt something under my foot. I moved my foot to see what it was.

It was a drop of blood under my foot. My hands started shaking. And when another drop dripped on my foot, I screamed.

The Truth Inside

The Truth Inside by Roshan Menon

It was three in the morning and I had missed the cab that had passed in front of me. "Damn! Now how am I supposed to get back home," I screamed. I decided to walk back home. It wasn't far away. A fifteen minute walk would get me to my bed.

I had just finished a party and was extremely tired. The fifteen minute walk took ages to end. There was a short-cut to get back home fast but I decided not to take it. Why? The short-cut ran through the old chinese cemetery which was really spooky. I took the longer way.

There were not many cars travelling on the road. Very few had passed by. But there was no one walking around there either. So I started to walk slightly faster. And soon enough I reached a bus stop.

I sat there to take a breather. All those drinks I had earlier were not helping. I was trying to catch my breath when I saw someone walking towards the bus stop too. I got up from there and beginned to walk back home. I turned around but there was no one there. "He must have gone back," I wondered.

I continued walking and saw some one ahead of me walking towards me. But something was really odd about the person. He looked very familiar, like someone I had seen before. He was pacing slowly towards me. Something about the way he walked also was extremely familiar. But I couldn't see his face.

I walked faster to see if it was someone I knew. But my gut told me to stop there and turn back. I kept on walking. But there was something really spooky about him. Everytime he walked under a lamp post, the light will flicker. Weird.

As I walked pass the person. a chill ran down my spine. The way the person walked, dressed was exactly like me! The person was me. I felt cold and pale suddenly. The hair on my hands stood up. I was scared.

I started to walk even faster refusing to turn around to see it. I thought wheter it was my mind playing tricks on me. It was have been the twelve glasses of scotch that was causing this illusions.

I  turned around but it wasn't there. It was just my mind playing tricks on me. Thank god! I looked ahead and could see my house from afar. So I continued my walk dismissing what I had just seen. Then I heard the rustling of leaves and turned around to see what it was.

It was the person again. The lamp post was flickering again. But this time I screamed. It was me, without a head! The blood was dripping from the neck onto its clothes. And thats when I saw the head. It held the head in its hands by the hair and there was blood dripping from the neck onto the road.

I started to run for my life screaming simultaneously. And when I turned around to see, It was chasing me. I ran and ran and tripped over something and fell on the road. I could feel the blood oozing out from my face. I fainted.

The next morning I got up to the sunlight on my face. I wasn't in my bed. I was in the cemetery. I had fallen asleep against a gravestone. There was a funeral going on. I went up to see it.

I saw my mom and dad there crying. As I got closer, I saw that it was me inside the coffin, without a head.

The World Cup Dream

An idea struck me about August last year. I wanted to watch the World Cup finals, it's been a dream of mine to watch the Brazillian team in action on the field.

Well, it so happens that the next World Cup is in Brazil in 2014. And oh how I would love to visit the beautiful South American country. But going alone won't be all that fun. Hopefully I can find some friends who would like to tag along with me.

Saving up the money I need, I am looking forward to watching the beautiful game LIVE. Join me. :)

The Rise and The Fall of the English Bohemoth : Manchester United

What else can be said about a team with such amazing history. The managers, players and drama over the last 50 years has filled the memories of fans of the football club.

Yet, the story so far this season has been somewhat a a fairy tale start with disasters occurring here and there. After yesterday's game against Newcastle which they lost 3-0 and the slip up on New Years against Blackburn it's hard to believe that this was the team that won their last two games in 2011 with 5-0 victories a piece. This is not the same team which beat Arsenal 8-2 either.

Question is, what happened? Manchester City happened. They came, they saw and they conquered the Theater of Dreams. After that, everything changed.

United need to step it up a notch before the game against City this weekend. Or else they're in for a real beating they will never forget.

What United are missing? An influential midfielder: Paul Scholes. The rock solid defensive pairing of Ferdinand and Vidic. The deadly precision of an instinctive striker like Berbatov last season. Edwin Van Der Sar at the goal. And a regular right back.

What United need to do? Sir Alex has to realize that he has to spend in the transfer market this month to boost up the squad. A midfielder and a player to replace Gary Neville at the right back.

On my view about this Sunday's game against City, if United don't do anything quickly, it's going to be City's game to lose.

The Unfinished Adventure

Writing stories has been a passion of mine since high school. Hence I decided to share a short story I had written in my school days that I had used in my public speaking.

I want you all to close your eyes for a few minutes. Don't think about anything, leave the mind blank. Let the mind wonder into a deep abyss, a part of the of the mind you never knew existed.

Now imagine sitting on a seat. Not any ordinary seat. This seat is special. You are on a...(yells "BOOM") You feel a sudden thrust against you as you head upwards at great speeds. You pass out.

You wake up listening to the crackling noises on the radio. "Do you read....Odyssey...Come..In.." You try to reach out for it but it floats away. You come to your senses. Reaching out for the radio you grab it and try replying to the message. 20 minutes go by and no reply.

You decide to put on some gear and head outside. Trying to remember what seems to be fragments of your memory of the past few days. You jump one meter or so at each step unintentionally. Must be the gravity.

You head over to what seemed like a mountain the size of the Rushmore you saw a few months ago.You climb up as high as possible to get a clear view of the entire place. But nothing in the world prepares you for this.

What you see is a huge empty crater the size of an ocean, your ship had crashed on the surface and among the the stars on the sky you see the Earth and a glimmer of the sun right behind it.

There begins your journey of a lifetime, A Space Odyssey.

Now open your eyes slowly.

Life can be what you want it to be if you believe.

The Friend

It was only three months ago that we started really talking to each other. Realizing we had much in common than we expected (LXD Twins). Bullying one another and sharing experiences we had and other secrets, my college life had gotten a whole lot better with her around. Thanks for everything Yoda Sindhu. A friend in need is a friend indeed.

P.S I wrote this since you're my first follower.

Must see movies of 2012

1.The Avengers
2.Batman Dark Night
3.The Hobbit
4.The Amazing Spiderman
5.Skyfall (James Bond)
6.Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
8.Bourne Legacy
9.Men In Black 3

The Darkest Hour

A movie where the trailer was rather eye catching has lived up to some movie goer's expectations but not entirely the plot we expected. A series of explosions and Russian accents made the movie more fun and a taste of humor  was just needed. A recommended watch for movie goers.

Rating : 3*
